"Solutions" dialogue

Let's have a dialogue about one of the solutions offered two posts back:

Eliminate all languages except one.

Here's how this will work: If you disagree with this notion, write a single sentence in the comments which sums up why it's flawed. I will then write a single sentence in reply, possibly in the form of a question, and we will continue this way until we either both agree or one of us gives up.

  1. Due to the fact that languages constantly, stubbornly mutate (even French, a language which actually has a governing body, can't seem to stop kids these days from talking like aliens), even if you could kill off all present languages except one, it would only take about a century for that language to mutuate into dozens of new tongues.

  2. With the increasing pervasiveness of the Internet across the planet, would it not take an unusually significant event to isolate portions of a population bent on preserving its means of communication?

  4. Ah, but is Internet speak as a subset not a mode rather than a fully functioning language complete with a definable syntax and morphology?

  5. Sorry I wandered off from this discussion. I forgot to mention the fact that only about 1 billion of the people on the planet currently have intertoobs, and not all of those that do are on here all day. People still wander away from their computers and have conversations with their roommates or coworkers on occasion.

  6. I'm not sure how replying to a comment once in a while implies that you have no life and are on the Internet all day, but I honestly don't really care. I don't recall insinuating that you had disappeared in the first place. It's entirely up to you to reply or not, and I am not bothered either way.
